Innovative Approach to Sequencing Bridge Construction

Innovative Approach to Sequencing Bridge Construction

To construct the new Virginia Street Bridge in downtown Reno, NV with the least impact to the community, Q&D worked together with Jacobs Engineering to collaborate on a way to cast the structures large-scale arches at the site and shift them into place over the river using pneumatic lifting and temporary support structures.  In order to communicate the sequencing and temporary fencing for the community information meeting, the Q&D team created a simple sketch-up model of how the bridge will be put together.  Pushing the bridge into place over the river from the adjacent bank is a unique approach, one that came from working together with our client and design partners to evaluate the best possible method of construction for the City of Reno.  Take a look!
