Building the Future: Q&D Construction’s New Training Center
At Q&D Construction, we believe that the future of our industry lies in the hands of well-trained, empowered professionals. That’s why we’ve taken a bold step forward, building a new training center at our Mustang, NV yard site. Spearheaded by CEO Lance Semenko and Training & Outreach Director Eva Werschky, this initiative has been years in the making, with the bulk of the groundwork laid throughout 2023 and officially launched in 2024.
The NL Dianda Training Academy is more than just a facility—it’s a hub for growth, learning, and collaboration. Designed with a focus on apprentices, the program underscores our commitment to preparing the next generation of construction professionals. By providing a comfortable, controlled environment for learning, we’ve created a space where trainees can freely ask questions and build confidence without fear of judgment.
“We took the time to get this right,” said Semenko. “It’s been a gradual process, but we’re thrilled with the progress and excited for the program’s future. Our goal is to invest in our people and our company’s long-term success.”
In 2024, Q&D trainers launched an impressive lineup of courses tailored to the diverse needs of our team. These included grade-stake, plan reading, concrete placement, apprentice/operator training, excavation and shoring, safe driving, and forklift/aerial lift safety. Our apprentices (laborers, operators, masons) all earn apprentice hours for their participation in trainings. Recognizing that growth isn’t limited to field operations, we’ve also introduced classes for project managers, covering topics such as insurance, bidding, and accounting. Additionally, during the summer of 2024, Q&D purchased CAT simulators – one loader, one excavator – to help operators learn to drive new machines and/or build on existing skills.
