Veterans Guest House

About the Veterans Guest House
The Veterans Guest House is a “home away from home” for families of U.S. military service veterans who are receiving care at facilities in the Reno area, including the Reno Veterans Administration Hospital which is across the street. After decades of service, the Veterans Guest House team was worried they would not be able to handle the volume of patients and spouses traveling to receive treatment or to be near their hospitalized veterans under their doctor’s care.

A new hope
The Veterans Guest House Board asked Q&D to guide their journey through an expansion to offer more space and services. The team worked diligently to offer creative solutions to budget challenges to deliver a project for a fraction of the actual cost for this 4,777-square-foot home-like hostel facility, incorporating hospital-style fixture requirements, commercial-level life safety design, ADA access and additional private restrooms.

After working with the Veterans Guest House leaders for a short time, it was clear to Q&D and H+K Architects that this was more than just a worthy cause – it was a duty. The design-build team discounted their work and secured in-kind donations from vendors, subcontractors and community volunteers, further reducing the construction cost.

“Whereas, let all notice, this is a salute to Norm Dianda, Q&D Construction, for his overwhelming support for the construction of this beautiful home away from home for use by America’s Heroes ‘Our Veterans’ and their families during their time of medical need.”
