McCarran at interstate I-80, bordered by many retail businesses, residential access roads, and restaurants, is one of our City’s most traveled areas. It is also a historical thoroughfare, having been part of the original McCarran Ranch road in Reno’s earlier days. Q&D handled both difficult neighborhood notifications, a traffic control plan requiring many phases, and the discovery of several unmarked utilities, with a calm demeanor and problem-solving attitude.
When specific challenges presented themselves, we always worked with the Owner to find a constructive way to keep the work flowing in the field. Often it was by working elsewhere on the project so that the team could keep the work progressing while working on a solution to each challenge without affecting the end date.

SYSTEM HIGHLIGHTS
Q&D and our subcontractors worked closely with HDR Engineering to carefully relocate critical utilities, reconstruct the roadway, install new pavement, and curbs, gutters and sidewalks. The traffic control plan, which included 6,000 hours of full-time flagging and many phased revisions, was critical to the success of the project, judged not only by it’s successful completion per the owner’s requirements, but by the lack of incidents caused by the construction and the maintenance of business access and alternate bus routes at all times.
