Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center EL Wiegand Cardiac Telemetry Unit

Q&D’s team renovated the existing telemetry and med-surge area to create a larger cardiac unit across two wings includingprivate and semi-private rooms, adding showers and family visiting rooms. Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center now has dedicated bariatric patient rooms, six added isolation rooms, new nurse stations, a patient monitoring station, a doctor’s dictation room in each wing and a new patient family waiting room.

To accomplish this remodel in an occupied hospital facility, the Q&D team met weekly with subcontractor and Owner representatives, including medical staff, to maintain direct communication and expedite revisions to the program without affecting the end date of the project. During the design phase, mock-ups of patient “head-wall” options (where equipment connections are located above and beside the patient bed) were coordinated.

SYSTEM HIGHLIGHTS

Upgrades to the telemetry monitoring equipment, medical gas system, plumbing, heating and cooling, and nurse call systems were completed during the renovation. Throughout construction, special controls were maintained to ensure negative pressure to encapsulate debris and particulates within the space. The team coordinated work hours with the staff to ensure patient comfort and safety was maintained.

FINISH HIGHLIGHTS

Warm colors, wood-grain-look flooring that continues from the main patient area into the shower room without a transition, a dedicated area for visitor seating and soothing lighting schemes add comfort to the hospital stay.
