This new elementary school is based on the prototype model that H+K Architects designed to relieve overcrowding at surrounding elementary schools, and provide new capacity for Washoe County School District. Q&D was part of the team on the prototype school – Nick Poulakidas Elementary School – helping optimize constructability and budget to ensure the best possible value for future instances of this model.
This 2 story, 82,500-square-foot facility has 28 standard classrooms, one “Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM)” Lab, three “Hub” spaces for collaborative/project learning, modern security, energy-efficient design including a geothermal heat exchange system, and drought-tolerant landscaping. Q&D is the builder on this school set to open to students in early 2021.
