Blackwood Creek Gas Line

This complex project for Southwest Gas replaced an existing horizontal directionally drilled (HDD) gas line under Blackwood Creek less than 800 feet from the shores of Lake Tahoe. In order to minimize the impact to the traveling public during the tourist season, Q&D performed the work during the region’s off-season and scheduled all activities during nighttime hours to reduce the impact to highway users. Due to the lack of storage space for staging materials, the 700-foot casing and carrier pipe were welded offsite and moved to the site once the drill was reamed out.
