Topaz Lodge Fire Repairs

Q&D completed a 13-week whirlwind renovation, rebuilding the fire-damaged Topaz Lodge Casino in time for a July 3, 2007 opening. “The April fire at the casino was relatively small, and the real damage was caused by water from the fire suppression system, accelerating the demise of an aging building,” said Q&D Building Sr. Vice President Tim Kretzschmar. “What was on fire in Topaz was the Q&D team and our subcontractors, who worked 58-hour and 84-hour work weeks to Topaz could open its casino and restaurant in time to meet their tremendous summer demand.” Despite an aggressive schedule, Q&D’s team enabled Topaz to keep its hotel rooms and campsite services operational during construction. The recreation destination on the Nevada-California border in Douglas County temporarily closed it casino and restaurant for the remodel.

“The quick response, professional approach and commitment to the job were evident from the first day. Despite the complexity and ever changing landscape, the main casino floor and restaurant were completely remodeled and reopened in just ninety days, enabling Topaz Lodge to get back in business for the remainder of the summer tourist season.”

The upper level of the building had to be removed with most of the structure gutted down to the bare wood framing, including rehabilitation to structural and mechanical, electrical and plumbing components affected. Emergency restoration included rebuilding the fire damaged upper floor and roof, replacing water damaged drywall, flooring, and electrical systems, including telephone, data, fire alarm, and security systems, lighting, HVAC systems, and interior finishes.

Incorporating logs salvaged from the fire, the team extended the quaint western atmosphere.
