All work on Rodgers Dam in Lovelock had to be completed in 6 months outside the growing season so as not to impact local farmers. The very difficult excavation and dewatering was completed on schedule because project leaders elected to install a French drain around the perimeter of the site and he pumped out water from there. Then the team had to excavate 27,000 cubic yards before installing 28,500 cubic yards of sheet piling, 14″ timber piles, structural concrete and installation of radial gates.
“I cannot understate the challenges on Rodgers Dam… Superintendent Richard McFarlin and his crew expertly handled the very difficult excavation and dewatering while keeping the project on schedule. Your concrete crews were meticulous in turning out the numerous 2-foot-thick-by-25-foot high walls for the dam. I was amazed at the amount of water the crews had to deal with, but they were professionals. Your concrete pours happened like clockwork.”

SYSTEM HIGHLIGHTS
Because concrete crews would be following their lower tier of structures with a set of structures at a level 15 feet higher, our team elected to install sheet piles. The sheet piles allowed Q&D to turn over the location of the second tier of structures before the lower tier was completed, which eased the schedule and saved money on site work.
FINISH HIGHLIGHTS
Local farmers were eager to have water flow returned to them, so Q&D’s team developed a diversion of water using trench boxes and liners to give them a water source prior to completion.
