Q&D was the CMAR on this new school, the first elementary school built in Reno in over 10 years. It is designed to relieve overcrowding at surrounding elementary schools, and provide capacity for this high-growth area. School capacity is 745 students in this 2-story, 82,500-square-foot facility.
There are 28 standard classrooms, one “Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM)” Lab, three “Hub” spaces for collaborative/project learning, modern security, energy-efficient design including a geothermal heat exchange system, and drought-tolerant landscaping.
As the first-of-its-kind, it is a prototype for multiple schools underway in the Washoe County School District. As the CMAR for the initial school, Q&D helped optimize the constructability and budget of this school and is the builder for two more elementary schools – John C. Bohach and Cold Springs Elementary School – which were competitively bid.
